The goal of our lesson program is to create safe, effective,
knowledgeable horse people. From recreational riders to show ring competitors, young and young at heart - all students share a passion for horses! We offer English and Western riding lessons with an emphasis on quality horsemanship and a focus on learning fine control skills. Many riders comment that we are unique in the industry because of the attention to detail that we offer. Currently. lessons are available to horse owners only - either boarded in the barn or trailered in (an arena fee will apply for outside horses). There are several part board options available at Reid Farm for those interested in taking lessons and practicing on a safe, well schooled horse but who currently don't own one of their own. Lessons are available for young riders starting at the age of 8. Special circumstances occasionally allow for younger children who have grown up in a horsey family to begin lessons at a younger age. Perhaps you are a beginner adult who is looking to realize their youthful dreams of riding and horse ownership, and you have reached a stage in life where you are now able to fulfill those dreams. Lessons are the perfect place to start! We'll get you started safely, with knowledge about how to handle a horse in the barn and begin by taking slow steps to lay a solid foundation of good horsemanship. For those who have already had some riding experience, we will encourage you to become a more effective communicator and teach you a language that makes sense to your horse. This in turn makes you and your horse happier partners! We encourage everyone to learn all the 'nitty gritty' stuff about horses as well - proper bandaging, braiding, pulling a mane, first aid - you name it, we are here to help you learn more! Lessons are diverse and not all time is spent in the saddle - quality instruction on the ground and stable management play an important role in creating good horsemen. Working on the details...
